We've only just begun
Long awaited, had my first visit to the Ricoh Arena been, as my beloved Sky Blues played the first home game of the season taking on Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. In truth I was somewhat apprehensive about the game because we had not started the season on a flyer, with only 2 points from our first three away games.
However, my concerns were not justified as City played some highly enjoyable and effective attacking football to see off the Londoners 3-0. It was a fitting way to open the Arena and gave me some optimism about the season. In particular, the encouraging performances of Claus Jorgenson, Dele Adebola and Robert Page.
The arena itself is a good stadium, a lot better than Highfield Road in many ways, but in other ways, not as good as that ground which served us so well for 106 years. From the outside it is spacious and well planned although getting to the ground may be quite difficult as immediate parking is limited. My initial impressions of the interior are positive. Its quite an intimate atmosphere and doesn't feel like a 32,500 seater at all.
More compact than it's predecessor, Ricoh Arena is a well planned modern stadium which I hope will see many Coventry City victories and bring many fond memories to Sky Blues fans everywhere. Do come back as my photos of the day will become available online soon!
